Writing music characterized by “lyrical centers,” that “channeled spirituality” and “vehemence,” Singaporean composer and yangqin performer Cheng Jin Koh strives to transcend cultural boundaries with imaginative storytelling. Her works have been recognized by both the ASCAP and BMI and have been performed in major venues across the U.S., Australia, China, Taiwan, Japan, the U.K., and Singapore, including the Sydney Opera House, Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art, Lincoln Center, Kyoto Concert Hall, and National Concert Hall Taipei. Her collaborators include the American Composers Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Juilliard Orchestra, and Central Conservatory of Music, among others. As a yangqin soloist, she has appeared with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and the Chinese Music Ensemble of New York.
